Son Heung-min has officially joined LAFC for a Major League Soccer record fee of over £20m. He has signed a two-year deal with the option of a further two.
The striker announced his decision to leave Tottenham, where he spent 10 seasons, in an emotional press conference before the friendly against Newcastle in his native South Korea last Sunday. It was his final game for the Spurs.
"How do I find the right words for this? I don't know. I've been thinking about it for days. It's impossible. But I'll try. It's time to say goodbye to Tottenham Hotspur. My home for the last decade. When I arrived in 2015, I didn't speak English, I didn't know London, but you welcomed me with open arms, believed in me and stood by me through thick and thin. I was just a South Korean boy with big dreams who was supposed to have no chance. And now, 10 years later, North London is in my heart forever", the 33-year-old Korean told Tottenham fans.
Son is fourth in Tottenham's all-time top scorer list, behind only Harry Kane, Jimmy Greaves and Bobby Smith. He has 173 goals and 101 assists for Spurs in all competitions, including 127 goals and 27 assists in 333 Premier League appearances.
His last competitive match was the 1-0 win over Manchester United in the Europa League final in Bilbao. He then emerged from the bench after half-time and lifted the trophy at the final whistle - the team's first since 2008. | BGNES
